Azipho’s Creations was established in 1998 by husband and wife team, Azizah and Ras Sipho Onifa.

Azipho’s Creations is an award winner at BMEX 2011, for best designs in accessories. Also best Jewelry design at NCF Crop over Arts & Craft exhibition. The brand have participated at Jamaica fashion week, and exhibited at Carifesta in Suriname 2012 and is known for exhibiting at all the local shows.

The island brand is known by the Barbadian for its unique designs and quality finish.

Shakad Designer Wear

Shakad Designer Wear is an emerging quintessential luxury lifestyle brand which specialises in Caribbean inspired fashion and accessories. Established by Shanika Burnett in 2008 the focus of the brand is on delivering an experience of elegant fashion fused with the glamour of the elite lifestyle, set in exclusive tropical destinations around the region. Designs embody the epitome of contemporary style and design concepts and are each individually dyed by Ayissa Textile Designs using traditional textile techniques to exhibit the exotic colours, textures and rhythm of the region and its people. The brand is dedicated to promoting green; products are made using blends of the finest quality 100% natural fibres, such as silks, linens and exotic cottons. The brand is also committed to providing impeccable craftsmanship and paying acute attention to detail to ensure exceptional quality.
The luxury resort line is generally targeted to high end fashion forward consumers who have a penchant for the Caribbean and other ethnic aesthetics, luxurious style and sophistication, while the line of “Destination Wedding” gowns and other wedding related attire and accessories target non-traditional and often trend-setting couples.
A young business by industry standards Shakad has never limited its vision and desire to act as a launching pad for the Barbados Fashion Industry. Since 2008 Shakad Designs has participated in fashion events in the region and around the world such as BMEX Fashion Show, BB Fashion Weekend and Caribbean Innovation Challenge Finals in Barbados, Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica, Carifesta X in Guyana, Hot Couture in St. Lucia, AFI (Africa Fashion International) Fashion Week in Johannesburg, South Africa and African Fashion Week Toronto in Canada.
Shakad has received various awards in Barbados to acknowledge achievements in the fashion industry and business including the BNI Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2008 and the YES award for excellence in fashion in the cultural industries sector in 2016. Shakad was also one of the nominees for the prestigious International Designer of the Year Award at the 2015 African Fashion Industry Awards during African Fashion Week Toronto.


Very few people in the Caribbean are automatically known by their first name and Meiling Esau is the tour de force behind the premier fashion house, not only in Trinidad but throughout the Caribbean. Her designs are worn by international celebrities including Shala Monroque who was voted by as one of the top 25 most chic women of 2015.
The Meiling brand has been in existence for over three decades which have been stamped with accolades and awards including collaborations with Emmy Award-winning costume designer, Peter Minshall on his Carnival productions, the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta and the Miss Universe Pageant, which was held in Trinidad in 1999.

She was the first recipient of Caribbean Designer of the Year at Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) and in 2008 she received another award from CFW, this time, “Grand Master of Fashion Design”.

In September of 2008, she was presented with the Chaconia Silver Medal, a national award given for the designer’s long and meritorious service to Trinidad and Tobago’s business sector.

In 2010, Meiling was one of only two designers in the English speaking Caribbean to be invited to show at Plataforma K in Colombia. This is the most prestigious fashion trade show in the South American region and in 2011, she was the only one invited back to represent the English Speaking Caribbean.

In 2011, Meiling was honoured with the Women of Influence Award from the Association of Female Executives of Trinidad & Tobago for her innovation and business acumen.

In 2012, Meiling received, the Ocean Style Award last week “in recognition of tremendous effort, great accomplishments and lasting impact on Caribbean Fashion”.

For the 50th anniversary of Independence of Trinidad and Tobago, she is considered one of the top ten of the 50 most influential people in the nation according to the Guardian Newspaper’s online survey.

In 2013, Meiling was invited as one of the top five global designers to participate in the Woman of Purpose Global Summit. This event was attended by some of the most powerful women in North America and Meiling was asked to address them in a round table forum.

Meiling can truly lay claim to the description as an ‘iconic designer’. In 2013, she is the only local designer (and one of only two women) to receive the National Icon Award of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
